Historical European Martial Arts consist of the study and practice of extinct European martial traditions. They are based on a reconstruction process, as faithful as possible, of martial arts techniques and systems from historical sources. HEMAs are part of a modern and secure practice environment, they use simulators and suitable protections in this purpose. HEMAs cover a wide variety of martial practices, getting from antiquity to the early twentieth century. They thus make it possible to study and practice various weapons, but also differents forms of melee, like the wrestling or pugilat. Equestrian martial arts, with or without armor, are also attached to it.
